🔗COMSOL License Agreements

COMSOL Multiphysics

Individual (single-user) configuration

Named Single License. The programs may be installed and run on one or more computers, but only one person designated by the licensee (company) may work with them. The number of computers used by the specified user is limited to 2. The licensee can change the designated user maximum of 2 times per year.

CPU-based license. Its holder can designate one specific computer to install programs. Multiple users can alternate working with the program on a given computer (however, only one user can work with COMSOL Multiphysics at a time). The licensee can change the designated computer maximum of 2 times per year. Remote access is not allowed.

Of course, you cannot combine the two mentioned methods!

COMSOL Multiphysics individual configuration

Network (concurrent) FNL configuration

It allows simultaneous work with COMSOL Multiphysics for a given number of users connected to a local computer network. The number of simultaneously working users is limited by the number of purchased user licenses (keys). Network configurations are delivered as multi-platform - they allow combined operation on all supported platforms within one computer network and region for which the license is purchased. User access to the system is controlled automatically by one license server for all platforms. Only the FNL license allows working on computing clusters, using cloud computing and client and server configuration on different computers.

Unlimited time license

The purchase price is a fee for a perpetual license for one user or a group of users and includes a maintenance subscription for the first 12 months after purchase. Access to updates, technical support and the possibility to extend the license with additional extensions in the following years is possible after paying the Maintenance Subscription.

Time-limited license for 1 year

We offer annual time-limited licenses. The purchase price of the license represents a fee for a time-limited license for one user or a group of users for a period of 1 year. An annual time-limited module license can be purchased in addition to the unlimited time license.

Maintenance subscription (for perpetual licenses)

Maintenance means prepaid technical support, regular software updates for the given period and the possibility to extend the license with additional modules. The time period immediately follows the previous subscription period. If the subscription cycle is interrupted, it can be renewed by paying back the maintenance fees.

Subscription prices range from 20% - 25% of the purchase price of the products. Please contact us for an exact quote.

New products can only be added to an existing system if at least the basic COMSOL Multiphysics module has an active maintenance subscription!

Please note that the generation of license files is also counted among the tasks of technical support.

School discounts

School licenses are offered on extremely favorable terms. However, these licenses are limited to use on school computing resources, used only for teaching and research activities of students and teachers. With these licenses, the use of the programs for any commercial purposes is prohibited!

Classroom Kit

A COMSOL Multiphysics network configuration that is intended only for the regular instruction of students enrolled in courses at academic institutions. In addition to teaching itself, students can use the program to prepare homework or term papers, and teachers can use it to prepare lessons.

The Classroom Kit may not be used for other purposes. In particular, it is prohibited to use the Classroom Kit for the scientific and publication activities of teachers, doctoral students and students (outside of regular classes)!

Classroom Kit is available for all supported platforms with a minimum number of 30 network (concurrent) users.

COMSOL Server

COMSOL Server CSL configuration

The license is intended for running applications created in Application Builder and shared over the network by their authors. The CSL license exists for an annual or unlimited time period and works on the principle of Network (concurrent) FNL configuration. Each individual user can run up to 4 applications at a time. Applications can be shared with any users worldwide with a CSL license. The applications can be accessed via a web interface, independent of the operating system, or via the COMSOL client for the Windows operating system.

Academic Server ASL configuration

The license is intended for running applications created in Application Builder and shared over the network by their authors. The ASL license is unlimited in time and works on the principle of Network (concurrent) FNL configuration for 300 users. Each individual user can run up to 4 applications at a time. Applications can be shared with ASL license only to academic users (university students and staff) both within a single university and globally.

COMSOL Server academic server configuration

The COMSOL Server (CSL and ASL) license must be installed in the territory in which it was purchased. The CSL and ASL licensee designates the authorized users, who may be from the local territory or from other parts of the world. COMSOL Server is used exclusively to run Licensed Applications created by the Application Builder tool and is not used to run standard COMSOL Multiphysics (.mph) files.

Each COMSOL Server license may have a different configuration in terms of the add-on modules used. Add-on modules that the user used when creating the simulation model and subsequently the Licensed Application must also be included in the COMSOL Server license used.

COMSOL Compiler

The COMSOL Compiler license is used to compile applications created in the Application Builder into self-executable programs that are freely redistributable and do not require COMSOL Multiphysics. COMSOL Compiler is sold as an extension of an existing prepaid single-user or network (excluding Classroom Kit) academic or commercial license.
